The Fastest Way to Make Your House Smell Amazing

Food, parties, and guests are just some of the things that come with the holiday season. We’re sure you’ve cleaned up the living room and made sure the guest bathroom is ready, but have you thought about how your home might smell? Let’s face it, you don’t always know this; you might be nose blind. If you have pets and make smelly holiday foods, your house might not smell as nice as you’d like it to for guests.

So, what can be done to fix this besides spraying air fresheners everywhere? The simmer pot is here. It’s just a pot of warm water with herbs, extracts, and other nice-smelling things added to it. It works quickly to make your home smell better naturally. Think of it like making your own scented candle, but with better ingredients, a bigger range, and a stronger scent that lasts longer.

Even better, you probably already have many of the key ingredients and can quickly put the dish on the stove before your guests arrive. We like the fresh simmer pot recipe below because it uses tangy citrus, fragrant rosemary, and a touch of vanilla to make a warm, clean-smelling scent that will fill the whole house in eight minutes. Now, if only the vacuum could run itself.

Boil 2 cups of water in a 1-quart pot, then add the following:

  • 1 lemon, sliced thinly
  • 3 sprigs rosemary
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp. orange zest

Turn the heat down to low and add more water as needed.
